Many AI and robotic systems maintain some form of model of the world and use this to plan future actions. This can be seen as a form of prospective artificial imagination -- looking forward to potential future states of the world. Human's also use similar internal imagery when recalling past incidents and then replaying them either as they happened, or considering counter factual, "what if I had"", scenarios. A form of retrospective artificial imagination is used in the computational modelling of regret.
